Sigma Defense’s Multi-Functional Radar Simulator (MFRS) is a fully composable, closed-loop real-time threat radar simulator. MFRS is engineered to support the evolving needs of EW development, operational testing and operator training with unparalleled flexibility and precision.
Radar Emulator Features
- User-Programmable Architecture: The MFRS features a highly configurable software-defined architecture. Operators can easily program the simulator to replicate a wide variety of radar threat signatures and behaviors. This flexibility allows training and test personnel to switch between different threat systems or create new ones on the fly, future-proofing the system as new threat intel emerges.
- Closed-Loop Realism: Our simulator operates in a closed-loop configuration, meaning it can interact with systems under test in real time. For example, when an electronic warfare system emits a jamming signal, the MFRS “threat radar” will react accordingly (as a real adversary radar would). This closed-loop capability provides authentic engagements and dynamic responses, so EW operators and equipment experience the full cycle of detect-track-engage-counter engage.
- High-Fidelity Signal Generation: The MFRS produces radar signals that accurately emulate the nuances of real radar hardware – from waveform modulation and pulse repetition to antenna scan patterns. This high fidelity ensures that the receiving systems see no difference between the simulator and a real threat, which is crucial for valid testing and training. We can simulate everything from older analog radars to modern digital phased array systems by adjusting parameters.
- Lab and Field Integration: Designed with both laboratory and range use in mind, MFRS is compact and modular. In a lab setting, it integrates into existing test benches or anechoic chambers, supporting rapid development cycles and iterative testing for EW engineers. For range operations, it can be deployed forward to support open-air exercises. In both cases, the simulator’s open architecture allows easy integration with other equipment and control software, fitting seamlessly into the user’s workflow.
Through systems like MFRS, Sigma Defense ensures that developers and warfighters have the most realistic possible training and test environments short of a real conflict.
