Radar Design & Development

Mission-Ready Radars for All Domains

Our radar solutions go way beyond simulators. We deliver full radar systems engineered for each mission—from design to sustainment. Our in-house engineers develop analog and digital hardware, along with embedded software and system integration. This equips our customers with mission-ready radars for air, land, sea and test ranges.

We engineer all systems to meet the high-speed requirements of modern radars, so they can track targets in dynamic environments without missing a beat. By offering radar design as a service, Sigma Defense allows customers to field sensors tailored to their mission—without the overhead of maintaining an in-house development team.

What We Deliver

  • Large-Scale Radar System Design: From initial architecture through final integration, our engineers design full radar systems tailored to mission requirements. We handle system modeling, antenna and RF front-end design, signal processing algorithms, and software/hardware integration. The result is a turnkey radar solution optimized for our customer’s concept of operations.
  • Embedded Real-time Software: Our software team specializes in low-latency, real-time processing code for radar operation. Whether it’s firmware for Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) or algorithms running on DSPs, we develop software that meets the high-speed requirements of modern radars. This means our systems can detect and track targets in cluttered, fast-changing environments with the highest precision.
  • Advanced Signal Processing (ASP): We use advanced digital signal processing techniques for target detection, tracking and identification. From pulse-Doppler processing to machine learning-based target classification, our radar systems extract maximum information from returns. This enables precise simulation and target characterization in test scenarios and superior performance in real operations.
  • Cross-Platform Integration: We design for smooth integration no matter where a radar is deployed—whether it’s on a naval ship, an airborne platform, a ground vehicle, or a fixed test range. Our radars meet size, weight and power constraints of various platforms and conform to standard interfaces. This cross-domain capability means that when a radar is fielded, it seamlessly plugs into the platform’s existing ecosystem—from power and cooling to command/control interfaces.
  • Open Architecture & COTS Approach: We prioritize modular, open-architecture designs and leverage commercial-off-the-shelf components whenever possible. This ensures affordability and interoperability and supports future technology insertions. Customers benefit from reduced costs and easier upgrades, as our radars can evolve with minimal redesign.
  • High-Performance Hardware Design: We design custom high-performance hardware—including FPGAs and digital signal processor boards for specialized radar functions. These enable fast waveform generation, agile frequency hopping, and real-time adaptive processing. Agile reconfiguration is built in, so hardware can switch modes or waveforms on the fly to respond to new mission demands.
  • Threat Environment Simulation: Sigma Defense ensures your systems are evaluated against the real threats they’ll face. Leveraging our deep knowledge of current and emerging radar threats, we incorporate validated threat models into the radar systems we develop. For military customers developing EW systems, we can provide simulation environments and threat injects to test those systems.

Scalable, integrated and adaptive radar systems for every domain.
