Nicole O'Dell

Nicole is an Army brat that calls West Virginia home but currently resides in Perry, GA. Nicole was born in Fort Dix, NJ – which is now a pre-deployment location, and has been afforded the opportunity to live in many great places like Metro D.C. when her father was stationed at Arlington National Cemetery, West Point, and Fort Gordon. She and husband Travis have two boys and spend their ‘free’ time being active in their lives. Nicole is on the on Board of Directors for Perry’s Junior League where both boys play recreational baseball, and sits on the board of the organization where both play travel ball as well. Nicole shares community involvement in the recreational leagues with Sigma’s very own Charles Banks, Michael Keske, Tony Boisclair, Chris Cromer, and Jerry Hand. You can find Nicole, and half of the Perry office staff, at the ball field supporting the recreational leagues which are sponsored by Sigma Defense.

What is your role at Sigma Defense?

HR Director

When did you join Sigma’s team?

I joined Sigma Defense in May 2021 as the HR Manger, and was promoted to HR Director in May 2022.

What changes are you most excited about having been part of since joining?

I built the HR department from the ground up. I started as the only Human Resources employee, and has gone from a party of 1 to a team of 8!

I believe the growth is exciting and having already completed two acquisitions, I look forward to continued momentum. It’s a great time to be a part of Sigma Defense.

What changes has your team brought to the organization?

We now have a defined recruiting process, Learning and Development platforms, onboarding and orientation processes, strengthened relationships with Operations, and have improved the employee experience during the employee life cycle.

How has working at Sigma Defense as an HR professional been different than your previous experiences?

I’ve worked in such unique fields like healthcare and hospitality, but truly love the diversity and uniqueness of our makeup here. At Sigma, we pride ourselves on giving employees the flexibility when and where we can to be present in our family’s lives. As an active mom, that is a huge perk.

If you were to describe our culture in one word, what would it be and why?

Family

What do you find to be the most important and meaningful aspect of the work you do?

Everything we do is important and it’s mostly ‘behind the scenes’. We (HR) connect with every employee in each process we do.
