15 Years of Making a Difference

Recently, Congressman Austin Scott (8th District of Georgia) and Perry Mayor Randall Walker joined the Sigma Defense team at our home office in Perry Georgia to learn about our business, hear how we serve the men and women of the U.S. military and see how we are creating jobs locally, across the nation and throughout the world. More often than not, when we do a briefing, we’re talking about our technology, our services and what our people can do for a customer or a potential customer. This was a welcome change where shifted the focus on the community, our men and women in uniform and how we can make a difference. It gave me the opportunity to look back on what we’ve accomplished since we started Sigma Defense in 2006 and where we are going in the future.

When Thor James and I started Sigma Defense almost 16 years ago, we had no idea that it would grow into a business with over 320 employees located all around the world, of whom more than half have served in the military. We started with a simple mission, supporting the U-2 data links satellite relay program for the Air Force. Over time we grew the operation, expanding into Unmanned Aerial Platforms (UAVs) helping design the Predator Squadron Operations Center, delivering Full Motion Video (FMV) to the intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) community. Now we provide data link support and sensor data satellite backhaul for non-standard program of record platforms including, the Air Force Special Operation Command’s (AFSOC) U-28, Project Liberty, MQ-1C Gray Eagle and other manned and unmanned ISR programs. Our team members are located throughout the world supporting these programs and we are proud to work alongside servicemen and women to help them complete their mission, whether it’s here at Robins Air Force Base, at forward operating bases in areas of conflict or anywhere in between.

I believe it’s helpful to look to your past to chart your path forward. Sigma Defense is focused on innovating to deliver new capabilities to our customers even faster. We are well positioned to deliver on that vision. We recently completed the acquisition of SOLUTE, a company with a long history of software development and DevSecOps that will not only accelerate the pace of modernization, but will provide greater agility to adapt to new operational requirements.

As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Congressman Scott is particularly focused on how private sector companies are aligned with the military to help them fulfill their missions. As a representative from the 8th district of Georgia, he’s also very tuned in to creating good paying jobs for the local community. I am extremely proud to be able share our story and show how we are making an impact on both.
